The Big Banger Theory

The Essential Elements & Language Of Music For The Modern Producer

Save time producing better music and rid yourself of the headaches and frustration of always playing the guessing game.

Do you struggle trying to figure out what chords work together or even how to build a chord for that matter?

“What the hell is a chord?”

What if you could learn all the major and minor chords (theoretically there’s 42 of them) with my proven method of just learning 7 chords and 2 concepts.

"No more flipping through piano chord books or always counting half steps to just play a few simple chords."

Are you nervous to work with artist’s (paying customers) because you might not be able to communicate with them in a musical way? You're great at making music on your own terms but, the artist has the chords, melody and the key of the song all picked out. Your job is to make it a BANGER! Is your knowledge up to par?

Do you drag in samples (loops) but have trouble adding to it because you’re not sure what key it’s in? Or, even if it tells you the key you still have no clue what that means or how to use it to your musical advantage?

You could google these things every time you needed it, but most clients aren’t going to want to wait around for something they are paying you to know.

Time is money!

What about plugins that create chords, melodies, and drums for you?

I remember when I used to smoke cigarettes and someone would ask to bum a smoke and then a light. The smart ass catchphrase would be to say, “Ya want me to smoke it for ya too?” The point I’m trying to make here is you might as well then just let the computer make the song for you. Instead, be self-sufficient where you don’t have to always rely on these things.

Don’t get me wrong, these are great tools. But just like a knife is a tool, in the hands of a Ninja it’s a deadly weapon. Otherwise, most of us are just barely able to use it to spread butter on our toast. If these tools are your “bread & butter”, just imagine how badass you would become with just a little bit of musical knowledge.

“Knowledge is power!”

I’ve been teaching professionally for over 10 years. And have taught 1000’s of students during that time. I know almost any yahoo can stand up and spit some facts out. But listening to my students and finding out how to solve their musical learning problems is where I’ve developed my skills to break down and utilize these musical concepts. I always tell my students, “I don't get paid to teach, I get paid to learn”.

I’ve had students that have taken some college-level music theory classes and said they had learned and understood more in the 1 month with me than they did for a whole year at the college. I’m not saying these schools are bad or the teachers are awful. But most of the time they are looking at it from a classical sense and have no connection with what the students are interested in

"This book isn’t for those wanting to produce like Beethoven, but more like Zaytoven."

As it becomes easier and less expensive to produce music, everybody and their uncle is now a music producer. Pretty much everyone has the same access to the tools (spend the money, or torrent them) but, they spend little time on learning the langue they wish to speak. Or they want a direct plug into the Matrix (“I know music theory.”) where they think it will just magically be implanted in their brain.

Zaytoven learned how to play the keys in church, Pharrell Williams was a band camp nerd. A lot of producers pretend to not know any music theory to keep that street credit. They’d rather have you believe they were born with some sort of magical gift. The truth is you either learn this stuff intentionally, or you slowly pick up bits and pieces over time.

A lot of people have this misconception that learning music theory (a language created and built upon over thousands of years) will restrict their creativity and put them in a box. The reality is we are all in that same musical box. The difference is some of us have learned to see the box and use it to our advantage. While others are stumbling in the dark not realizing they are even in a box. How can you get out of the box if you don’t even realize you’re in a box? Mind blown!

Just like science has allowed humans to understand the universe and use it to our advantage (sometimes to our disadvantage). The musical knowledge in this book will allow you to create beyond your current reality

What are you waiting for? Do you want to spend the rest of your musical life searching for answers in the dark? Or, spend a little time and the price of an organic whole milk latte (eBook) or a breakfast slammer at Denny’s (paperback).

We’re all born into this Musical Matrix. Either take the blue pill (do nothing) and go on living in the dark, or take the red pill (buy the book) and become like Neo and have control and understanding of the Musical Matrix.

In this book you’ll learn:

  • How to bend your mind, not the spoon
  • What chords are used in most pop songs
  • How to become a drummer on the keyboard
  • How to write melodies that work with your chords
  • How to structure a song to keep your listener wanting more
  • And so much more.
